Calf Strain or Pull A calf strain or pulled calf muscle results when the calf muscle separates from the achilles tendon. When this occurs, you may hear it - the calf muscle may "pop" as it releases. The resulting strain is quite painful, accompanied by swelling and tenderness. You will especially feel it when you flex your calf by standing on your toes.
Keys to Calf Recovery During the recovery process do not overly strain the calf. Try to minimize foot flexion and extension, which will aggravate a calf pull or strain. As with any healing process, proper circulation is necessary to remove excess fluids and toxins that can accumulate. Swelling and inflammation need to be reduced before healing can occur. Once circulation is restored, the body can recover naturally and efficiently. To this end, minimize the use of ice and the R.I.C.E. method, which reduces circulation. While initially slowing circulation advantageously inhibits swelling, extended ice use slows recovery when compared with the Recovery Wrap and other Chi Formulas. Chi Formulas enhance blood and energy circulation while minimizing calf swelling. As a result these products promote efficient, natural calf recovery.

Calf MaintenanceKeeping range of motion is essential. Many calf injuries occur during acceleration - the calf is flexed when pushing off the toes. If the calf is inflexible or overly taxed, it can separated from the achilles causing the pull. To help in preventing this, keep the calf strong and flexible in its maximum range. The following Chi Therapies are maintenance and prevention techniques, but can also aid in recovering from a calf strain. Once you feel comfortable lightly moving your calf, you can try the following movement to improve lower body chi (energy) circulation. Prior to doing any physical movements or therapies, we recommend consulting your doctor. To maximize the benefit of the above movements, use Foot and Leg Energizer Spray as directed.
| Foot and Leg Energizer. $19 |
| Use Foot and Leg Energizer daily to help prevent soreness and fatigue and improve Chi circulation. This formula will also help further calf recovery after using one of the recovery products listed above. Learn more >> |
