One of the most common muscle pulls is a groin pull, but hamstring pulls, calf pulls or strains and tears in other muscles are also common. Pulled muscles can occur for a few reasons:
- Not warming up enough. Like any material, when a muscle is cold, it is less elastic. This inelasticity significantly increases the chances of straining or pulling.
- Reduced range of motion. When we are younger, we have more muscle and joint strength in a greater variety of positions and directions. Children are commonly referred to as being made “out of rubber.” As we age, we tend to limit the ways in which we use our bodies. Even with cross-training methods, the body uses only a small subset of its capability. Over time, overall muscle and joint strength and flexibility narrows, opening the door for a muscle pull.
- Sudden stress. In each of the above cases, the actual pull typically results from a sudden stress that the muscle cannot accommodate. This stress may be so severe that nothing could prevent it, but in many cases, preventative measures can go a long way towards avoiding injury.

To help prevent a muscle pull, Chi Herbal recommends properly warming up and using Chi Formulas and Chi Therapies. One principle is to use your muscles in their full natural range. The Chi Therapies section of this site contains a start for some of your joints and muscles, but we only touch upon a few of the ways that the body can be properly utilized.

If you do pull a muscle, Chi Herbal recommends using the Injury Recovery Kit or the Recovery Wrap.
If you have the Recovery Wrap at the time of the pull, wrap the pull immediately. When a muscle pull occurs, the body’s Chi is disrupted. Immediately applying an Recovery Wrap helps to bring Chi to the traumatized area, which in turn helps start the healing process.
Wear the Recovery Wrap for the recommended 24 hours if possible, but at least 12 hours. Afterwards, remove the Recovery Wrap and throw it away. Do not re-apply the same Recovery Wrap.
If you do not have the Recovery Wrap at the time of the pull, Chi Herbal recommends that you order The Recovery Wrap and have it 1 or 2-day shipped, so that you can apply it as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have Foot and Leg Energizer or Harmonizing Spray, use it on the pull as soon as possible. If you do not have any Chi Formulas, you can use ice to keep the swelling down. General practice is to ice for about 20 minutes at a time.
The Recovery Wrap provides relief from pains and swelling. In addtion the Recovery Wrap, helps to promote balanced Chi flow in the traumatized area. With improved Chi circulation, the body re-balances more quickly.

When it comes to running, I'm sort of a purist. It doesn't matter what the weather, I go. So, running on some ice last month, I went. Right to the pavement. In the process I pulled my hamstring.
Someone in my club had recently had a muscle pull, and told me about Chi Herbal. Since my hamstring pull was pretty harsh, I picked up the Injury Recovery Kit. In a few days I was jogging and within a week I was feeling back to normal. I was pretty amazed.
