Sprained Ankle Treatment
A sprained ankle is a common athletic injury, and it can have detrimental effects on your training schedule if you are preparing for a competition. When the ligaments in the ankle are forced to bear more stress than they can support, they are stretched beyond their degree of flexibility, resulting in a sprain. There are different degrees of sprains, and symptoms may include swelling, joint instability, and pain.
After incurring a sprained ankle, it is advisable to adjust your training schedule and stay off of the ankle for a few days so that the body has a chance to recuperate. A common method of aiding recovery is R.I.C.E., which is a schedule of rest, icing and elevation. If your sprain is severe, or you're serious about recovery, Chi Herbal recommends the Injury Treatment Kit or the Recovery Kit. These treatments contain an all natural topical analgesic for pain relief, but also bring Chi (or energy) to the ankle where circulation has stagnated. Improving this circulation helps the ankle recover quickly.
Additionally, when you return to training, recognize that your ankle may be weaker from the trauma of the sprain. Fortunately, there are precautions that you can take to minimize the risk of further injury, as well as treatments that you can use to speed your recovery.
By ensuring that your Chi is balanced, you reduce the risk of injuries because the body is best able to recuperate from stresses when the flow of energy (Chi) is optimized. When Chi is unbalanced, you may be more likely to injure yourself, as joints may not be able to endure stress or strain. At Chi Herbal, we have several products, including our Foot Energy Spray, that can be used regularly to minimize the risk of injury due to stagnant Chi.
